CAMP HOUSE CONCERTS - The stage is ready and the lineup is booked!  Camp House Concerts will present the 65 & Sides Society Inaugural Concert Series on March 25th, 2017.  Music is expected to last about seven-hours beginning at 5 o’clock that evening.  Headlining the concert will be R.L. Hayden preceded by James Steinle and Sylvia Kirk and son Matt.

THE CAMP HOUSE & 65 SIDES SOCIETY

The Camp House is a live music venue hidden back in the brush of southern Texas - home to the exclusive 65 & Sides Society Concert Series.  Bringing friends and family together to create an unforgettable experience while enjoying the illustrious sounds of country music is the mission.  The Camp House's one-of-kind setting emits an intimate vibe reminiscent of a private house concert underneath a Big Texas Sky.

The 65 & Sides Society is a unique group of friends drawn together by the Camp House and its ability to deliver quality live concerts to a small number of music lovers in a back yard/private concert setting.  People enjoy music for various reasons and we believe it is important to experience a musician’s work in its purest form – live!

What makes the 65 & Sides Society different than other musical clubs or communities is the way they invoke a bond between their members by coming together over sides. Yep, sides!  At any 65 & Sides Concert Series, you’ll find a mouth-watering main course of brisket, cooked by award winning Cody Turberville, served with more than 40 different side dishes.  Is there a better way to build a friendship than over music and food?  The Camp House doesn’t think so!

R.L. HAYDEN

Headlining the Inaugural Concert is multi-talented Atascosa Cowboy, R.L. Hayden, also known as Rodney Hayden.  Hayden is currently touring around the country following his 11th album release, Western Troubadour.  Although Western Troubadour is the 11th album of his career, it is the first release under the name R.L. Hayden and marks the beginning of a new direction that focuses on traditional cowboy music.  Hayden said, “I have decided to walk away from record labels and touring with a full band to return to his roots as a solo acoustic performer. It’s not that I ever got that far away from it, western music and cowboy songs have always been a part of what I do, but it hasn’t been my main focus.”

Hayden has opened for acts such as Chris Ledoux, Merle Haggard, Willie Nelson and Robert Earl Keen.  He has performed on some of the biggest stages in America including: Willie Nelson’s 4th of July Picnic, Austin City Limits, Grand Ole Opry, Billy Bob’s Texas and The Fillmore as well as numerous European tours.  Hayden has proven himself as a prominent songwriter whose credits include George Strait, Robert Earl Keen, Aaron Watson and Kevin Fowler among many other artists.

R.L. Hayden is on the road with a full tour schedule in 2017 for the Western Troubadour Tour along with Shenna, his wife of 10 years and Wyatt, their 3-year-old son.

JAMES STEINLE

AUTHENTIC. TEXAS. MUSIC.  Just three words needed to sum up the singer/songwriter James Steinle.  He described his unique style as, “a style of Texas country music that fuses blends of Norteno, Tex-Mex, Tejano, Country and Western, Bluegrass, and Rock together into a style that is representative of me as an individual.”  Steinle, University of Texas-Austin graduate, was born in San Antonio, Texas, grew up in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia, and spent some time in Landstuhl, Germany Later he went on to say, “I have been fortunate enough to see many places in this wonderful world we inhabit. I have always taken pride in being aware and observant, so many of my songs come from vivid memories I recall from different times in my life.”

When asked “Why do you do what you do?”, James said “There is a heavy burden and inherent responsibility placed on being a Folk singer/songwriter in Texas.  Of all the greats, Guy, Terry, Townes, Rodney to name a few; their collective catalogue and feelings they are able to conjure is what keeps me constantly inspired and focused on becoming the best songwriter I can be.”  Steinle says that he draws inspiration from the great characters of the world of songwriting- Robert Earl Keen, Steve Earle, Bob Wills, Hank Williams, Guy Clark, Lyle Lovett, Terry Allen, Ryan Bingham – and infuse my stories into the melodies they have helped me to hear.

James and his unique style will have the microphone at The Camp House from 7-8 Saturday evening, delivering music that will sound like something foreign, yet completely familiar.

SYLVIA KIRK & SON, MATT

Opening up the Inaugural Concert will be the Mother-Son duo of Sylvia and Matt Kirk.  Sylvia and Matt are not the only musicians in Kirk family however.  Bobby and Matt both sing and play rhythm and lead guitar respectively, while twins Katie and Jake deliver backup vocals and bass licks.  Sylvia takes pride in her children and has raised them around a music environment and it shows.  She has been playing locally for nearly 40 years, mostly in the San Antonio and New Braunfels area.  In a piece written by Action Magazine, where Sylvia captured the magazine cover, author Sam Kindrick describes Kirk as “one of the greatest female singing voices ever heard.” Cecil Thomason, Dallas musician who worked with Sylvia said “Her voice has an outstanding tone. Even back when she was off-key she sounded good. She’s one of those rare vocalists who sounds good all the time.”  Later in the article, Kindrick goes on to compare Kirk to Bonnie Rait, Stevie Nicks, Linda Ronstadt and Emmy Lou Harris.  Kirk has worked with some of the best in Texas with a few of them going on to do bigger things.  These two are going to rock the stage with a full 2-hour performance.  Read Action Magazine’s full article here.
