NOTES ON SONG: This is one of my older tunes, wrote it my second year of college after reminiscing on nights where me and my buddies would be at my place drinking High Life and a handle of whatever whiskey was on sale (typically Southern Comfort), and just playing cards or listening to Townes/REK. It’s kind of a more thoughtful “bros before hoes” tune…just reminding you that your good friends are one of the most important things in life.
LYRICS: Good Friends
There’s a bar down the road, we used to go
We’d get a little, crazy and wild
But now I find myself in this old place
Except, I can’t hit rewind
Just last week I saw my buddies
All strutting down on the drag
They looked at me as if I was a ghost
Shoot, I fell way out of line
But this old glass is gonna, help me mend
Give me time to pretend
That dusty bottle has a sour taste
You can’t buy good friends
You can’t buy good friends
Pain will come, pleasure will go
Your heart will break, your wallet will grow
And down this road, you’ll always know
You got a place to rest those, heavy loads
But this old glass is gonna, help me mend
Give me time to pretend
That dusty bottle has a sour taste
You can’t buy good friends
You can’t buy good friends
I’m sitting here in my straw Stetson
I’m drinking them neat from some hand me down glass
But ain’t no one here, gonna share a good laugh
I knock ‘em back and rest my head on the past
Pain will come, pleasure will go
Your knees will tremble and your heart will slow
That steady breeze sure gonna carry us back
Back to that old pine table, knocking back Jack.
But this old glass is gonna, help me mend
Give me time to pretend
That dusty bottle has a sour taste
You can’t buy good friends
You can’t buy good friends
